Hello.
This is Vibe Plastic Surgery.
With the recent increase in remote work and online classes,
many people are looking to transform their image during this time,
leading to a growing number of individuals considering eye surgery.
Regardless of age or gender, people prefer a kind
and pleasant impression,
so to resolve a fierce or heavy look,
many consider ptosis correction.

Many people are confused about how double eyelid surgery
and ptosis correction surgery differ.
So today, we will find out the differences
between ptosis correction and double eyelid surgery.

What is ptosis correction?
It is a surgery that strengthens the levator muscle power when opening the eyes,
allowing the eyes to open more clearly and easily
with the same amount of effort.

Simply put, double eyelid surgery
fixes the skin to the inner part called the tarsal plate,
so that when opening the eyes, what used to be a monolid
opens as a single fold, but after double eyelid surgery,
it opens with two folds (a crease).
Ptosis correction surgery, on the other hand,
directly tightens the eye-opening muscles,
making the eyes open more clearly
and easily.

We recommend ptosis correction for these people!
- Those with weak eye-opening muscle power
- Those who use their forehead to open their eyes
- Those whose eyes look sleepy when open
- Those who can only open their eyes halfway
when pressing down on their forehead
In these cases, ptosis correction surgery
will provide the best results.

It is ideal to achieve satisfactory results from the start,
but even if it turns out slightly under-corrected,
it can be fully supplemented later through revision correction.
However, if over-correction causes
the eyes to open too widely,
it can be difficult to perform a revision later.
Therefore, the most important thing to avoid
in ptosis correction is "over-correction."
In cases of mild over-correction,
you can expect it to loosen up to some extent over time,
and it may gradually improve. Thus,
it is best to have a thorough consultation with an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon
to hear the surgical plan before making a decision.

The eye-opening muscles largely consist of two layers.
The muscle closer to the skin,
and conversely, the muscle closer to the inner conjunctiva.
It is composed of these two layers.
The two have different roles
and show slight differences in the degree
to which they maintain the power to keep the eyes open.

When performing incisional surgery,
the approach is made through the skin,
so the superficial upper muscle is accessed first.
You can think of this muscle as playing a major role
in opening the eyes.
Therefore, if the eye-opening power is very weak,
we can more easily control the eye-opening
by first adjusting the muscle that plays the main role
through the incisional method.

When performing non-incisional surgery,
the eyelid is flipped, and the surgery is performed
from the inner conjunctival side.
In this area, there is a muscle called Müller's muscle
that is involved in opening the eyes.
By slightly tying this part,
the eye-opening power is corrected,
making it a much easier and simpler correction method.
However, if a large amount of correction is needed,
there may be limitations, so it must be done
through a thorough consultation with the medical staff.

For those whose eye-opening power is exceptionally weak on only one side,
surgery is possible, but since many more factors
must be considered, it should be done after
a thorough consultation with the medical staff.

Prolonged use of colored contact lenses
acts as a sharp weapon that can weaken
the eye-opening muscles.
Also, the habit of frequently rubbing your eyes
can weaken the eye-opening muscles,
so it is best to be careful.
