Top 5 Reasons for Revision Rhinoplasty!

Hello.

This is Vibe Plastic Surgery.

In the case of rhinoplasty, there are many instances where

the initial surgery is rushed and not properly planned,

leading patients to experience side effects.

Furthermore, revision rhinoplasty is so common

that there is even a rumor saying you need at least three nose surgeries

to finally be satisfied.

Let's find out exactly what reasons

lead to revision rhinoplasty.

5th place is capsular contracture (contracted nose).

When an implant is inserted into our body,

because the implant is a foreign substance,

it triggers an immune response.

As the body reacts to it not being its own tissue,

inflammatory cells gather around the implant.

Over time, this can cause pain,

and the immune response from these inflammatory cells

can cause a shrinking or tightening reaction.

This phenomenon is called contracture.

Contracture literally means

the symptom of hardening and shrinking.

When inflammation occurs around the implant

and a thick capsule forms, it compresses the silicone,

inducing this contracture phenomenon.

In the early stages after surgery, it can be treated with antibiotics,

but if time passes and contracture sets in,

implant replacement or removal may be necessary.

Considered among the more difficult rhinoplasty procedures,

hump nose and bulbous nose surgeries take 4th place.

This is when surgery was performed for a bulbous tip or a dorsal hump,

but the hump returns after surgery,

or the nasal tip remains bulbous, meaning the correction

was not achieved as much as desired.

In the case of a dorsal hump,

it should be moderately shaved down within a safe range,

and then an implant or autologous cartilage should be used

to fill in the depressed areas. Only with this surgical method

can high satisfaction be achieved.

Many patients visit us due to asymmetry or a deviated nose.

Everyone has some degree of

facial asymmetry.

The slope and axis of the nasal bones differ on each side,

and the height of the alar (nostrils) is also slightly different.

However, you might not normally notice this asymmetry.

But as the nasal bridge is elevated during surgery,

the deviated parts and the differences between the two sides

can become more noticeable.

It may be difficult to perfectly correct

these minute differences surgically,

but if the implant moves and becomes crooked after surgery,

or if the axis is severely misaligned,

it can be corrected through revision surgery.

When performing rhinoplasty,

the nasal tip is usually elevated

using autologous cartilage.

If the skin is too thick

or because the skin itself exerts downward pressure,

there are many cases where patients feel the tip has dropped.

Also, although not commonly used recently,

there are cases where an L-shaped implant was used.

Inserting an L-shaped implant from the bridge to the tip

looks very unnatural, and due to the pressure on the strut,

the nasal tip can actually appear more bulbous.

This is considered the most common cause

of revision rhinoplasty: dissatisfaction.

There are quite a few cases where patients complain

that they feel there is no significant difference in height compared to before surgery,

or that their nose has become too high and unnatural, like an Avatar,

after getting rhinoplasty.

Just as a high nose is not unconditionally a pretty nose,

the line that suits each individual is different.

Rather than simply looking at the nose alone,

it is most important to consider the harmony of the entire face, such as the projection from the forehead to the mouth.

This is the most crucial factor.

To find out what your ideal nose shape is,

and what aspects you want to improve through revision rhinoplasty,

we recommend using 3D-CT at Vibe Plastic Surgery

to systematically analyze the causes of the previous surgery's failure

and improve both aesthetic and functional aspects

simultaneously.
